From Telesales to National Sales Training Manager – My FLEETCOR Journey
Our UK National Sales Training Manager, Luke Bickers, explains his journey at FLEETCOR over the past five years.
How long have you worked at FLEETCOR?
I joined FLEETCOR just over five years ago in the telesales team. I have had an incredible five years rising up through sales to my current role of National Sales Training Manager.
What have been your highlights so far?
I feel very fortunate to have been entrusted with taking the Sales Training Team from a concept 2 years ago through to a fully functional team that is very much embedded in the Uki Sales business for FLEETCOR, and for me that’s what I find so appealing about FLEETCOR. I have been given the opportunity and autonomy to use my skills, knowledge, ideas and adopt a test and learn approach, which has resulted in driving significant measurable change across a broad range of sales people with varying skillsets. I have led and delivered a major sales training programme that is now a unique brand within the business, and it feels great to look back on highlights such as this and say I did that! Finally, my team and I are always looking at different ways to disrupt traditional training methods and make it an exciting experience for everyone involved.
You’ve gone from Telesales Executive to National Sales Training Manager, is this kind of journey a one-off at FLEETCOR?
No, not at all. I look across the entire UK business and see so many colleagues who have gone on similar journeys to that I have. There is a common trait in that we are all dedicated to what we do, and what we want to over-achieve on.
Why is FLEETCOR a great place to work?
Whilst my role covers the UK sales business we are part of a fantastic global business and my role has seen me working with colleagues from across the globe which is a great experience. FLEETCOR is a business that doesn’t stand still and for me it is always offering a new challenge to work through.
You’re recruiting – what sort of manager are you? What sort of person would make a great asset to your team?
I think my biggest attribute is that I am passionate about sales and I want my team to share and demonstrate that passion. We work very hard and play a key role in a very successful sales business, so we are very good at being adaptable and have the ability to shift focus where appropriate! I am very keen to see my team developing their own ideas and running with them, automony is a very important factor. The ideal person knows sales, knows what make salespeople tick and wants to play a part in taking our sales business to the next level.

We’re currently looking for a Sales Trainer to supporter and equip the UK Sales teams with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful. The successful candidate will design training content deliver through classroom based learning and one-to-one coaching as well as playing an integral part of shaping the future of our UK Sales team.
